Diabetes Model Micro-model 3D Printing Service

As a trusted 3D bioprinting biotech company, CD BioSciences' experienced team of experts can offer you various types of in vitro model building services based on the high-resolution 3Dmicroflu™ technology platform covering all aspects of life science research. Here, the advantages and applications of 3Dmicroflu™ technology platform in the construction of diabetes 's disease micro models are demonstrated in the following section.

Overview of diabetes

Diabetes is a metabolic disease characterized by hyperglycemia. Hyperglycemia is mainly caused by defective insulin secretion or impairment of its biological action. The prolonged presence of hyperglycemia in the body can lead to a series of complications in other healthy tissues and organs, such as cerebrovascular disease, permanent kidney damage, diabetic foot infection, retinopathy, heart disease, and peripheral neuropathy. Diabetes is classified according to typology as type 1 and type 2 diabetes.

  • Type 1 diabetes

Type 1 diabetes is a condition in which blood glucose levels are elevated due to impaired pancreatic function and inadequate insulin secretion by the islet cells. Most patients develop the disease in adolescents. Patients with type 1 diabetes generally require lifelong insulin therapy due to defective islet function.

  • Type 2 diabetes

Type 2 diabetes is mainly caused by a relative lack of insulin secretion due to insulin resistance. The patient's pancreas still has the function of secreting insulin, but it is unable to exert adequate glucose-lowering effects due to insulin resistance. Patients with type 2 diabetes tend to develop in adulthood.

3Dmicroflu™ in the construction of diabetes micro-models

Diabetes is a chronic disease that affects the quality of daily life and can lead to many complications. Therefore, there is a great need for drug screening and development for diabetes. As an important organ for insulin secretion and the source of diabetes, islet models are an important part of in vitro diabetes research requiring realistic simulation of in vivo physiological characteristics. At CD BioSciences, 3Dmicroflu™ technology platform can provide high-resolution 3D bioprinted islet tissue micro-models for the application of diabetes model construction services.

As shown in the figure above, 3Dmicroflu™ technology platform can be used to further the design of type 1 and type 2 diabetes micro-models by constructing islet tissue micro-models through single cell printing. Diabetes models constructed by 3Dmicroflu™ technology platform can offer the following advantages.

  • 3Dmicroflu™ islet microtissues are uniform in size, cellular composition, and function that maximally mimic the islet state in a physiological environment.
  • 3Dmicroflu™ islet microtissues remain viable in culture for a relatively long period of time, providing long-term in vitro studies of diabetes.
  • 3Dmicroflu™ islet microtissues can avoid differences in study results based on automation and engineering due to batch-to-batch variation in diabetes micromodels.

In addition, diabetes models constructed by 3Dmicroflu™ technology platform can provide the following services.

  • Dynamic analysis of insulin-secreting function of pancreatic islets
  • Effect of different injuries on islet secretion function
  • Alpha/beta cell function analysis
  • Type 1/2 diabetes drug screening
